THE BELGRAVE MOULD - DESIGN REGISTERED 1850

JELLY MOULDS COPPER

A very rare mould bearing the young-head portrait of Queen Victoria designed by William Wyon for her early coinage. The mould, stamped with an "R" within a laurel garland, a maker's mark which has so far eluded identificaion, is thought to date from the marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840 and there is believed to be a corresponding mould with the portrait of Prince Albert

A fine example of The Prince of Wales Plumes mould, from the Earl of Lonsdale's kitchens at Lowther Castle, near Penrith.  The mould probably dates from the time of the creation of Edward as Prince of Wales, (later to ascend the throne as King Edward VII), in 1841
