BUTTER MARKERS 

 BISCUIT PRICKER

A small collection of 19th- and early 20th century carved wooden butter markers, mainly of sycamore.  The could also be used as prints for pastry.

A rare boxwood biscuit pricker finely carved for ROYAL VOLUNTEERS Bifcuits.  Note the useof the long "s" of biscuits, a fashion which had largely died out by 1810. In the late 18th century large numbers of militia regiments were raised by country gentry as a precaution agaist the possiblity of invasion by Napoleon's armies
